Secret Men's Business
Geoff Boettcher, the Commodore of the CYC of South Australia, won the 2010 Rolex Sydney Hobart overall and then sold the yacht to John Newbold from Victoria, whom he sailed the last Hobart and Land Rover Sydney Gold Coast Yacht Race with. Now ‘Boettch’ returns as the owner of the TP52 which started life as Matador and then became Team Beau Geste.
As Matador, it won the TP52 Worlds in 2009 before King Juan Carlos of Spain campaigned the boat in 2011 and won Copa Del Rey ahead of his second place at the Med Cup. In 2013 Karl Kwok shipped the renamed Team Beau Geste to Australia and won the TP52 Southern Cross Series. In 2014, he adapted the boat for IRC racing and dominated to win the NSW and Australian IRC Championships. Kwok then took the boat to Asia and won the Kings Cup in Phuket. It arrived back in Australia in January after Boettcher purchased and renamed it Secret Mens Business, as per his former boats. He finished eighth overall under IRC in the Adelaide Port Lincoln Race and subsequently won the Port Lincoln Race Week Regatta, so is well on track for a good result in the race to the Gold Coast. If it’s a light one, this will be the TP52 to beat.
