China Easyway
Travis Read and Tim Wilson purchased China Easyway in 2014, in time for the Sydney Hobart. On board was a combination of Australian/Chinese crew, including co-skipper, Wei Hua Pan, but retired with sail damage. This is Read’s first Sydney Gold Coast with the boat. He has conscripted James Cameron, the owner of the Hick 35, Luna Sea, who has solid small boat offshore experience, and one of Cameron’s crew, Greg Nosworthy. Read is a small boat sailor too, having previously owned the Davidson 34, Illusion, which he sailed in major races, such as the Hobart, which it won in 1988 for original owner, Gino Knezic. China Easyway still bears the sail number she was christened with as She’s Apples II for David Strong, who sailed her to an overall IMS win (in conjunction with IOR winner, Atara) in the 1991 Sydney Hobart. Strong also finished second under IMS (IMS and IOR ran in conjunction) in the 1989 Sydney Gold Coast Race. The Jarkan 12.5 was sold to Max Prentice before Read bought her.
