Koa
Late in 2015, Peter Wrigley and Andy Kearnan bought Bryon Ehrhart’s Lucky, winner of the 2010 Middle Sea Race and second placegetter in the 2014 China Sea Race. They took Koa (named for Hawaii’s largest native tree) in her maiden Sydney Hobart, but retired with steering damage. Repaired, Koa placed third in Division 1 at the 2016 Sydney Harbour Regatta and fifth at the NSW IRC Championship. This is her first Sydney Gold Coast experience, but both owners have runs on the board with individual previous yachts; Kearnan in particular with L’Altra Donna, which was eighth overall and third in Division 3 of the 2015 Sydney Gold Coast race and fourth overall and second in Division the previous year and won Division 2 of the 2013 CYCA Trophy Rating Series. Wrigley’s sons Matt (31) and Drew (26) are aboard. This is Matt’s second time, but a first for Drew. Conscripting old sailing mates Anthony ‘Pato’ Paterson and a handful of his former Tow Truck crew to the cast won’t harm their chances.
