Peter Harburg had purchased the RP100 (previously Alfa Romeo and Esimit Europa) in 2017 and after some modifications was able to be back on the water just in time for the light-air 2017 Sydney Gold Coast Yacht Race. This 100 footer claimed 145 plus line honours wins in Australia, the US and Europe, inclusive of breaking the 2009 Transpac Race record when owned by Neville Crichton, one of the most successful yachts in the sport. The newly re-branded Black Jack was able to come out of the gates at full steam giving the experienced Wild Oats XI team a run for their money, finishing just 3 minutes and 31 seconds behind at the finish.
Since then the boat has moved from strength to strength taking the Line Honours Title in both the Cabbage Tree Island Race and Bird Island Race. With these top class finishes and a very close Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race in 2017 the team will be eager to make a mark on the start of this years Audi Centre Sydney Blue Water Pointscore. With the winter weather potentially bringing light winds the team may have a bit of an advantage against the wider heavy air boats.
