Jim Cooney, best known as the owner of Brindabella and Maserati purchased LDV Comanche in December with his wife, Samantha Grant, and skippered the newly owned super-maxi to a Line Honours win in the 2017 Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race with the help of his daughter Julia, son James, ex Waratah Jeremy Tilse and familiar faces from Comanche’s 2014 and 2015 campaigns. Comanche contested the Hobart brand new in 2014, finishing 49 mins behind WOXI, and 2015 when she took line honours from Ragamuffin 100 and has had a string of record breaking runs including the Transpac monohull and Transatlantic records.
For the newly designed 100-footer it will be the first time that it will compete in the Noakes Sydney Gold Coast Yacht Race and opening race of the Audi Centre Sydney Blue Water Pointscore. This will give the team a great stepping stone to compare against the other super-maxis which will be competing before they match again leading in to the 2018 Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race.
