What is the Noakes Sydney Gold Coast all about? Is it part of a series of races?
The Noakes Sydney Gold Coast is the first race of the Audi Centre Sydney Blue Water Pointscore series, run by the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia. The six-race series culminates in Australia’s most-famous yacht race, the Rolex Sydney Hobart.
The CYCA introduced the Sydney Gold Coast Yacht Race in 1986 as 'the great winter escape', taking advantage of the completion of the Gold Coast Seaway. Extensive harbour works funded by the Queensland Government had opened up an all-weather entrance at the Southport bar to deep keel yachts, large pleasure craft and fishing trawlers. The 2019 Noakes Sydney Gold Coast is the 34th race of its kind.
