Impi

Ivan Resnekov has only owned Impi for a little over a year and in that time has flirted with a couple of Farr 40 one design regattas but his first love is passage racing, which the boat was kitted out for having done a cat 2 Mooloolaba race when he acquired it. This will be their first offshore race following a major maintenance overhaul. Impi means a Zulu regiment because 10 crew are needed to sail the boat in one design format.

“It will be interesting to see if we are able to worry an optimised, well sailed Farr 40 vessel like Splash Gordon which has a prodder and runs asymmetric spinnakers," says Resnekov. "There will be the odd parking lot so tactical decisions such as where to park, in or out, will be a telling factor." Resnekov will be sailing with a number of his “old faithfuls'” as core crew including Peter Ward, Sue Marshall (bow) and Jonathan Rosenberg who sailed many miles on Resnekov’s previous boat, Farr Horizons.
