Black Jack

Black Jack

Peter Harburg returns to the race track with Black Jack after breaking his leg in the 2015 Sydney Hobart, forcing him out of the race. In last year’s Gold Coast race, having undergone modifications to improve her light weather performance, Black Jack was declared overall winner after crossing the line in second place to Perpetual Loyal. However, her crew discovered a discrepancy and duly reported it. Harburg’s honesty meant a drop to third place overall, but showed the true mark of the man. The former Telefonica trailed Harburg’s former RP66 Black Jack (now called Alive) in the shifty and light Brisbane Keppel race by nearly five hours to finish second on line. The V70 recorded her third consecutive line honours victory in the Brisbane Gladstone Race this Easter and her second successive double line and overall win – one of only two boats to achieve this in the race’s 68 year history, but Skandia Wild Thing’s race record remains elusive. In the three years Peter Harburg has owned the yacht it has raced to other top three places.
