Last Hurrah

Last Hurrah

Last Hurrah is the well-named yacht of Peter Bush, who returns to racing after a long absence, for one last go. ‘Bushy’ became Commodore of the CYCA from 1996-1997. Then the corporate turnaround specialist filled the role of interim CEO of the Club, never guessing what the 1998 Sydney Hobart would bring. He was also a prominent ocean racer with yachts such as Big Schott, Casablanca, Blind Panic, Rager, Bobsled, Kidnapped and Bushwhacker. This yacht is the former Valheru, previously owned by Tasmanian Tony Lyall. It underwent optimisation by Fred Barrett and builder Ian Milner to improve performance, but its bow was severely damaged in a collision soon after the start of the 2002 Sydney Hobart. Bush’s long term goal is to contest the 2018 Melbourne Osaka double-handed yacht race with old sailing buddy, Alan Lang, who is aboard for the Land Rover Sydney Gold Coast Yacht Race.
