Legal software supremo Christian Beck purchased Perpetual Loyal from Anthony Bell. The former Speedboat/Rambler finally lived up to its tag of ’the fastest super maxi in the world’ last year when after receiving major surgery, broke the Sydney Hobart race record of Wild Oats XI set in 2012, by four hours 51mins and 52secs, in the time of 1 day 13hrs 31mins 20secs, culminating in second overall and second in Division 0. This after retiring from the 2014 and 2015 Hobarts (damage after hitting an object and rudder damage respectively), but finishing second on line in 2013. Also took line honours in the 2015 Sydney Gold Coast Race.

In the 2017 Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race, the team was fourth over the line but due to a penalty being applied for an infringement of the Racing Rules of Sailing the team was placed 24th. Christian Beck and his team will be looking to put this result behind them and head in to the this years Audi Centre Sydney Blue Water Pointscore with a clean slate ready to match up against the other super-maxis.
