After Midnight

After Midnight

This boat returns to the CYCA under new owners, Mark and Greg Tobin. The brothers acquired the modified Farr 40 in March this year, from Melbournian John Newbold who had owned her for two years.

As Primitive Cool, Newbold had moderate success with the boat, competing in the Ocean Racing Club of Victoria’s winter series, RMYS’s JH McDonald Series, and won Cruising Division B at Geelong Week in January. In the 2012 Rolex Sydney Hobart, Newbold was forced out after the mainsail was damaged.

Before Newbold, owners Ed Psaltis and Bob Thomas won the CYCA’s Blue Water Pointscore Series for 2006/07 and the Short Ocean Point Score in the same season with the boat they named AFR Midnight Rambler.  The duo also won the Gold Coast race overall in 2009 and were divisional winners three times.

The Tobins know they have bought a solid performer and plan to race her in major offshore events along the eastern seaboard - aiming to once again have this 12 year old yacht on the winner’s podium.
