Ed Psaltis, Bob Thomas and Michael Bencsik will be pushing hard to achieve a second overall win in the Sydney Gold Coast Yacht Race, which they won in 2009 with their modified Farr 40 Midnight Rambler. They have previously won their division three times.

With this Midnight Rambler, which they acquired in 2011, the trio have scored various podium finishes. They include two consecutive second overall finishes in the Gosford Lord Howe Island Yacht Race; second in IRC Division 2 in the 2012 Rolex Sydney Hobart, third in the CYCA’s 2012-2013 Blue Water Pointscore Series, second in the Cape Byron Series (ORCi category of the BWPS) and second in IRC and PHS of the 2012/2013 Grant Thornton Short Ocean Pointscore Series.

After securing a fifth in the 2013-2014 CYCA’s Blue Water Pointscore Series, Midnight Rambler went on the compete in the Auckland to Fiji race in June finishing seventh on line and seventh in IRC.

As well as their Gold Coast race victory, Psaltis and Thomas have won every offshore race on the east coast including the Gosford Lord Howe Island and Sydney Mooloolaba races twice, and the Sydney Hobart Yacht Race with their Hick 35 in the storm ravaged 1998 race.
