Wot Eva - SWD

The last time this boat competed in this race was 2012 and she was the ‘lucky’ 13th boat across the line, resulting in a divisional fifth place.  For over 20 years, Sailors with disABILITIES (SWD) has been helping people with disability to develop a more optimistic outlook and enjoy personal growth. Over 42,000 individuals have benefitted from the various programs this charity conducts.

Prior to last year’s Hobart, sailed on their Lyons 54, SWD came up with a great fundraising initiative enabling money donors to have their photo appear on the hull of the yacht. Some of these faces are also displayed on the hull of Wot Eva –SWD, which wotif.com co-founder Graeme Wood generously donated to SWD in 2010. The former Wot Yot was forced out of the 2010 Rolex Sydney Hobart with engine trouble, but finished seventh in PHS Division 1 in 2012.

Last year, the crew of SWD celebrated the tenth anniversary of their unassisted circumnavigation of Australia by a monohull. They completed this journey on the Lyons 54 and set a world record of 37 days, 1 hour, 23 minutes and 7 seconds. David Pescud and a disabled crew also have the distinction of winning PHS overall in the fatal 1998 Hobart race with a previous boat.
