Last year’s Land Rover Sydney Gold Coast Yacht Race was the first for Noel Cornish and his St Jude. Aboard were CYCA Youth Academy graduates, Emma May and Nicki Bradley undertaking their first ocean race in which they finished 40th overall, before going on to finish 51st overall and 12th in Division 2 of the Hobart race. This time, Cornish has drawn crew from opposing ends of the spectrum. May rejoins him and Tony Cable, who holds the record for the most Hobart races (49) by an individual, joins the crew. In the 2013 Hobart, St Jude finished 43rd overall. CYCA director Cornish is a regular in the CYCA’s offshore program. Last season he finished the Blue Water Pointscore 20th after missing two races, but fared better in the Ocean Pointscore, with a sixth overall. He was third in the previous year and in the 2010/11 season.
